Private Club, Toronto
We were engaged by a private club in Toronto to oversee the commission of an artwork for their feature stair. This involved preparing a shortlist of artists and managing the invitation-only RFP process. This site-specific installation by Toronto-based artist Kristiina Lahde is made up of 600 white, powder-coated aluminum discs. Responding to the asymmetry of the wall and the angle of the staircase, the circles arc and curve, spanning the wall as if ricocheting back and forth or bouncing up and down. Similarly to Eadweard Muybridge’s nineteenth-century photographs which capture a moving subject with the intention of studying its movement, Lahde’s installation is inspired by physics and the combination of gravity and force on a ball in motion. The work speaks to the activities of the Club and to ideas of partnership and exchange.
